National Tree Day took place on Thursday 8th October. This year the arbutus or the Strawberry Tree was celebrated. The Strawberry Tree is a rare native evergreen tree. It can be found growing wild mainly in county Sligo, Cork, and Kerry, where rocky, well-drained soil encourages its growth. Unlike many of our native trees which are also native to Britain, arbutus is thought to have spread over a land bridge from Brittany and is not native in Britain.
