Natural Heritage

Rainbow in rural Ireland

Natural Heritage can be defined as flora and fauna and includes biological diversity which is the total variety of lifeforms on earth including habitats and ecosystems. Biodiversity is all around us! We all need biodiversity, for example we need bees to pollinate our crops, we need forests to produce oxygen and stabilise our soils, and we need wetlands to filter our water and control floods. So as well as the plants and animals we rely on ecosystems to live.

As more and more people are beginning to live and work in urban centres we need to ensure there are green areas for nature to flourish. In turn  people can hear bird song and relax in these areas and live in harmony with nature!
